Page Rank can be seen as page authority or trust. A higher page rank affords you a greater deal of trust from search engines. This directory uses re=“nofollow” html attribute to link to your website, nofollow links tell the search engine to diassociate the link between the two websites, therefore this site does not flow pagerank, provide a recommendation or vote for the websites it links to, since the nature of the website is advertorial content:
The directory does this to signify to search engines that the content on this website is paid for (even although listings are free), to do otherwise would be a misrepresentation of the information, this directory seeks to be an authoritative and high quality directory as such such policy is strictly followed.
Should you be using internet directories you should focus on high quality directories and bear the following considerations:
1) Link profiles – previous search engine optimisation techniques resulted in spammy link building techniques, Ryan McLaughlin in Search Engine Journal 30th August 2013 explains this very well. Older sites may have relied on, perhaps, unscrupulous methods of increasing page rank. Such techniques are now penalised by Google or specifically by the Penguin search engine algorithm.
2) Reciprocal link requests – often directories will request that you provide them with a link from your site in exchange. Such directories are to be avoided, they will, no doubt, be adding penalty worthy links to your website. If previous SEO efforts have relied on using such lower quality links, Google introduced disavow to reverse the process.
3) KPIs — The directory to which you are listing has respectable page rank, page authority, domain authority or key performance indicators. You can check this through the use of numerous online tools such as Majestic SEO and Moz’s Open Site Explorer.
NB: This directory is new and therefore has come into existence after the significant advances in search engine algorithms, while it does not currently have a high page rank or other Key Performance Indicators, it will actively monitor its link profile. It is one of the first websites to use the .directory domain extension, initially using the domain on a frame redirect in late February 2014.
